TI 84 Pink Calculator
As far as calculators go the TI 84 Pink Plus Silver Edition and other TI 84 family products are the main workhorses for math and science classes and they have been for several years. (At this point I’m 24 and my brother is 15, we both use the same type of calculator)
In other words as long as the fundamentals of math and science stay the same, this calculator will always have a home inside the classroom.
TI 84 Pink Basics
First things first. This particular calculator is pink so if you have a girl who is a fan then you’re all set but one of the little perks about the TI 84 Pink Plus Silver Edition is that you can purchase additional faceplates and switch them out so you or they don’t have to get bored with the same color. Check out the list of available colors. I’ve also seen a couple of customer complaints about the pink on the TI 84 pink being a hot pink instead of the light pink that’s pictured above.
The TI 84 Pink itself comes with 21 pre-loaded apps. Along with this you can go straight to the Texas Instruments site and get 18 more apps that you can add to the calculator. The calculator itself has a huge amount of space, according to the TI site it can hold up to 94 apps. Of course I’m still trying to figure out why they would have all that space for apps when they only offer 39 for that particular series of calculator. I’m sure some apps require more space than others and also there is room for downloadable games along with Princeton review questions (more on that later).
Note: Apparently the calculator does use a good amount of power more than the TI 83 calculators (in all fairness it is twice as fast and holds 9 times more memory than the TI 83) so an extra set of batteries would not be the worst idea.
Now most of the apps are math specific so it’s going to be most useful for subjects such as algebra, geometry, physics, pre-calculus, finance and the list can go on for a while but basically if a class has a math component then the TI 84 Pink will prove to be useful. Check out the List of TI 84 Applications.
Connectivity
One of the really neat things about the TI 84 Plus Silver Edition is its USB port. This allows you to connect the calculator to your computer so that you can download the apps, games and review questions that you need. Another possibility is that if you have a project with a USB port then you can hook up the calculator to it and share along with the class either how the student figured out the answer to a question or a teacher can also use it as another teaching tool and the students can follow along with them. Check out some of the other Key Features.
Testing With TI 84 Pink
The TI 84 Pink Plus Silver Edition is also approved for many tests including the SAT, ACT, PSAT/NMSQT, (IB) Internation Baccalaureate and Praxis exams. Check out Testing with the TI 84 Pink to learn more and also find out how to download practice questions for the SAT and ACT from the Princeton Review straight to your calculator.
